Marcos congratulates Trump for inauguration

MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. extended his congratulations to Donald Trump for his recent inauguration as the 47th president of the United States of America.

In a social media post on Tuesday afternoon, President Marcos said he is hoping that the strong ties between Philippines and the United States will continue under Trump’s new administration.

“Congratulations to POTUS @realdonaldtrump and to the American people on another peaceful transfer of power in their Nation’s nearly 250-year history. I look forward to working closely with you and your Administration,” Marcos said.

“The strong and lasting PH-US alliance will continue to uphold our shared vision of prosperity and security in the region,” he added.

Trump, 78, recaptured the White House late last year by securing more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency. He defeated Vice President Kamala Harris.

In his return to presidency, President Trump immediately made some controversial moves, including an order to pull US from the World Health Organization and withdraw from Paris Climate Accord.

Trump also ordered the United States government to recognize only two biological sexes (male and female) while also ending the work from home setup for federal employees.

The returning US president also gave Tiktok 75-day grace period from the US ban, and he also pardoned 1,500 pro-Trump supporters who were detained due to the Capitol riot four years ago./PN
