MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has extended the Philippines’ sympathy and solidarity to the United States following catastrophic floods that struck central Texas and left at least 119 people dead, most of them in Kerr County.

In an official statement released by Malacañang on Thursday, Marcos conveyed the nation’s condolences to the American people, particularly those in Texas who were hardest hit by the unprecedented disaster.

“On behalf of the Filipino people, I extend our deepest sympathies to President Trump and the American people as they face the devastating floods in Texas,” Marcos said.

Over the weekend, torrential rains triggered historic flash floods across parts of central Texas, forcing mass evacuations and prompting several counties to declare a state of emergency. The Texas Hill Country, northwest of San Antonio, bore the brunt of the calamity.

Acknowledging the Philippines’ own experiences with frequent natural disasters, the President expressed a deep sense of empathy for the victims and their families.

“We know the challenges of rebuilding after disaster and grieve with the families who have lost loved ones,” he said.

Malacañang also confirmed that, based on information from the Philippine Consulate General in Houston, no Filipino nationals have been reported among the casualties or injured as of Wednesday.

In his message, the President offered prayers and encouragement for the people of Texas.

“We stand with the United States in prayer and solidarity during this difficult time,” Marcos said. “We have faith that the strength and resilience of the people of Texas, together with President Trump’s leadership, will guide them as they recover.”/PN
