MassKara organizer presents plans for 3 major festival sites

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. (BGFI) has unveiled its initial plans for the management and operations of three major festival sites for the MassKara Festival 2025, set to run from October 1 to 19 in this city.

In a press conference yesterday, August 26, BGFI representatives Christopher Mallo, head of food kiosk operations at the Bacolod Public Plaza; Mark Raymund Garcia, site director for the Lacson Tourism Strip; and Lady Lehi Lambuyong, site secretariat for the Lacson Tourism Strip, shared updates and preparations for the country’s “Festival of Smiles.”

Mallo revealed that this year’s celebration will bring back the festive energy to the Bacolod Public Plaza, which will serve as the venue for the streetdance and arena competition for both barangay and school categories.

Kita tanan magadinomugay naman liwat sa public plaza. This time, maginutok kita. Ma-experience naman ang smell sang different types sang people from all walks of life,” Mallo said, stressing that the return to the plaza aims to encourage more public participation and help concessionaires thrive.

Unlike in previous years when the competition was staged at the Paglaum Sports Complex — where most spectators went home right after — the plaza will host various activities even after the competition, ensuring continuous entertainment.

“In the coming days, we will be presenting the complete line-up of programs and activities for both the plaza and the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC). These activities will showcase the best of Bacolod’s culture, creativity, and community spirit,” Mallo said.

She added: “On top of this, the plaza will serve as the venue for the highly anticipated culmination of the street dance competition, including the announcement of winners — a highlight that will surely bring the city together in celebration.”

For the Lacson Tourism Strip, Garcia said the stretch will be divided into seven blocks for better crowd management during its three-day operation. Each block will feature a stage prepared by brands and sponsors, with live performances from artists and celebrities to create a music festival atmosphere.

Mallo said around 180 food kiosks will be set up at the BCGC, while the plaza will have 101 kiosks along San Juan, Gonzaga, and Gatuslao Streets, plus 40 food carts along Rizal Street.

For the Lacson Tourism Strip, Garcia said they are targeting 180 corporate booths and 200 food kiosks.

Kiosk rental rates start at P25,000 for a 10×10-foot space.

The grand highlight of the MassKara Festival 2025 will be held on Oct. 19, with the city once again expected to draw thousands of locals and visitors in one of the country’s most celebrated festivals./PN
