BACOLOD City – Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), said the 2017 MassKara Festival ended “successfully.”

By successfully he means that no major crime incidents occurred in three festival sites: the Bacolod City Government Center, the public plaza and the Tourism Strip on Lacson Street.

Binag said only five theft alerts and a violation of the gun ban were recorded during the merrymaking.

Binag added that the 22-day celebration was also free from terror attacks.

He said their coordination with the local government was a big factor in making the event safe.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia has issued an executive order that “harmonized the responsibilities” of the stakeholders in the MassKara celebration.

Binag also thanked the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, and volunteers.

He also commended the public’s cooperation with security personnel.

On the other hand, Leonardia said MassKara’s success is rooted from the people’s support.

He said this year’s MassKara has the “most challenging security situation ever.”

Leonadia said the number of revelers increases each year.

An estimated 20,000 people gathered at the city hall and the Tourism Strip on Oct. 22 while 30,000 at the public plaza, according to the Bacolod City Police Office./PN
