ILOILO – Residents of Miag-ao were mourning. Their vice mayor, Leonardo Naldoza died, yesterday, April 19.
“Nagtaliwan ang aton vice mayor around 1 p.m. at a private hospital in Iloilo City. Kahinali lang sang ihitabo,” Mayor Macario Napulan confirmed to Panay News.
Naldoza would have turned 60 next month.
The vice mayor succumbed to multiple organ failure, Napulan said.
“Nag-develop sang damo nga complications kay may problema sia sa atay… Sini nga adlaw nag-bleeding and gin-cardiac arrest,” the mayor added.
It was three weeks ago when Naldoza discovered his problem in the liver. He sought medical help when he experienced extreme pain in the stomach.
The vice mayor had three children. His wife died in 2013 due to renal failure.
This would have been Naldoza’s third term as vice mayor.
‘GENEROUS MAN’
The late official was remembered as a kind-hearted leader.
“Way man ‘ni gamo, mabinulingon kag waay ka man makuha nga problema… Waay man pagpangakig, daw easy-easy lang. Lawig man nga nag-updanay kami, waay man kami isaway sa iya,” Napulan said.
Following the vice mayor’s death, Napulan issued an executive order “declaring a week of mourning from April 19 to April 26, 2021.”
“Nagapangayo ako sang pangamuyo sa pahuway nga dayun ni vice mayor kag buligay lang ‘ta kag pangamuyo lang ‘ta nga mapadayun naton ang hinimoan niya,” Napulan stressed.
Who’s going to take the place of the late vice mayor?
“Ang mabulos siempre, by law of succession, is ang aton number one SB (Sangguning Bayan) member Atty. Carmelo Nochete,” Napulan confirmed.
Nochete will assume office starting today.
More so, Napulan has yet to announce if there would be an addition to the members of the SB.
“Istoryahan pa namon ina kay ti manug-one year or almost one year kag matapos ang ining term. It’s a party decision regarding sa mabulos kon buslan or indi,” the mayor added./PN
