ILOILO City – MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) never runs out of ideas to lessen the inconvenience caused to its consumers affected by the 12-hour scheduled power interruption on Sunday, April 21.

From giving out mugs and rice and organizing parlor games in affected barangays, this time they’re beating the heat by providing free cold water for washing and bathing to the barangays affected by power interruptions.

In cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection – Iloilo City, their long-time partner in their information, education and communication fire prevention campaign, and Federation Fire Iloilo, MORE Power scheduled water delivery to 12 affected barangays from 10 a.m. until power was restored.

Although some barangays initially declined the delivery due to their sufficient water supply, MORE Power optimized the delivery to larger barangays experiencing water shortages.

“It’s heartwarming to see both kids and adults finding joy in simple things like this. We hope we can help ease the discomfort caused by the heat and lack of electricity in their area,” said Maricris Cabalhin, MORE Power’s head for Customer Care, referring to the kids enjoying taking a bath from the hose of the fire truck.

Residents who benefited from the free water expressed deep gratitude to MORE Power, particularly as water scarcity remains a significant challenge in their area.

While Barangay Captain Antonio Jacobo Jr. of Balabago, Jaro echoed the sentiment, saying, “Ang bubon diri naghubas naman. Bisan pampaligo kag panghugas problema gid. Salamat gid sa inisyatibo sang MORE Power nga paghatag sang libre nga tubig.”

The same sentiment was shared by Barangay Captain Amadeo Sultan of Simon Ledesma, Jaro.

The 12-hour scheduled power interruption last weekend was phase 2 of cleaning, washing, and replacing post insulators on the 69 kilovolt (kV) lines due to contamination. Because of El Niño and light rain, dirt and salt have built up on insulators and facilities, leading to potential sparks and outages during light rain./PN
