ILOILO City – A significant milestone in community-driven agriculture was marked with the successful conclusion of the Harvest Festival in Barangay Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo City. This event spotlighted the collaborative efforts between the Iloilo City Wide Farmers’ Association, the Iloilo City Agriculturist Office, private sector partners, and MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power).

As part of this initiative, local farmers received free seedlings, fertilizers, and essential farming tools, complemented by training on proper harvesting techniques. This support was made possible through ongoing cooperation with the City Agriculturist Office and Uswag Nursery. After months of diligent cultivation, a total of 214 kilograms of high-value vegetables — including eggplant, bitter gourd, lettuce, cabbage, bottle gourd, and string beans — were harvested.

“MORE Power’s support and genuine commitment to the progress of Iloilo City and its farmers go beyond words and are reflected in their actions,” says Iñigo Garingalao, head of the City Agriculturist Office.

The Harvest Festival transcends a mere event; it serves as a model for sustainable community development. Revenues from the harvest are reinvested as capital for the next planting season, fostering a cycle of growth and self-sufficiency.

This approach not only increases production and income for local farmers but also strengthens the community’s overall food security.

As head of the City Agriculturist Office, I commend MORE Power and look forward to this partnership prospering for the benefit of the city and future generations,” stated Iñigo Garingalao.

The Harvest Festival exemplifies how collective efforts can nurture communities, empower individuals, and lay the foundation for a greener, healthier, and more resilient future, planting the seeds for continued growth for years to come./PN
