BACOLOD City — A motorcade from the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Lagoon here will usher the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea) Meet Season 34 on Sept. 12 at the University of Saint La Salle (USLS) coliseum here.
It will start at 2 p.m., said Ericson Rios, assistant to the chair of the committee on sports.
Noted athletes who gave name to the association will be recognized for their contributions.
Antonielle Kaye Berduque of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos will light the friendship torch.
She is a member of the Philippine delegation to the United States basketball visitors program in March in Miami and Washington, DC.
Catherine Pollentes of St. John’s Institute, on the other hand, will lead the oath of sportsmanship.
She is a member of the Western Visayas secondary volleyball girls’ Palarong Pambansa team that competed in Santa Cruz, Laguna, in April.
Drumbeating competition (for high schools) and dance sports competition will follow, Rios said.
ABS-CBN anchorman Ryan Gamboa, former member of the Negros Slashers under the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association, will deliver an address during the opening.
Gamboa, son of the late former vice governor Romeo “Roy” Gamboa, was a USLS varsity basketball player.
He played for Western Visayas in the Centennial Palarong Pambansa held here in 2000./PN
