ILOILO – A 23-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a center island along the national highway in Barangay Mali-ao, Pavia town, shortly past 3 a.m. on July 10.

The victim was identified as Van Iver Ralla, a native of Jordan, Guimaras, who was temporarily residing in Santa Barbara, Iloilo.

Initial police reports stated that around 2 a.m., Ralla informed his friend, identified only as “Toto,” that he was heading home on his Yamaha Aerox motorcycle after a drinking session at Toto’s apartment. Ralla’s younger sibling, who was also present, later discovered that Ralla had figured in a road accident.

According to the sibling, Ralla had consumed alcohol but was not visibly intoxicated at the time he left.

Ralla reportedly lost control of the motorcycle, veered to the left side of the road, and crashed into the center island. He was not wearing a helmet and was thrown approximately 10 meters from the point of impact. His head hit the pavement, resulting in fatal injuries.

The victim sustained multiple injuries that led to his immediate death.

As of press time, the Pavia police were continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident./PN
