MANILA – Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates put up a spirited run in the fourth quarter for an 80-69 victory over the San Sebastian College Stags in the NCAA Season 95 men’s seniors basketball yesterday at the San Juan Arena.
After being down by as much as 13 points, the Pirates leaned on the exploits of Enzo Navarro and twins Jayvee and Jaycee Marcelino to outscore the erstwhile unbeaten Stags, 28-10, in the fourth period.
Jayvee finished the match with 12 points while Jaycee, Navarro and rookie Enoch Valdez each had 11 markers apiece. The Pirates claimed its third victory in four matches.
Allyn Bulanadi top-scored with 13 points. Ramil Tero and Itchie Altamirano had 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the 2-1 Stags whose star player RK Ilagan was held scoreless by the tight Pirates defense.
In the first game, Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers cruised to its second consecutive victory. It took down struggling University of Perpetual Help Altas, 71-66.
Holding to a slim 56-53 lead in the final nine minutes of the match, the Heavy Bombers leaned on a 13-2 run behind John Amores, JL Delos Santos, Ry Dela Rosa, and Marwin Dionisio for 69-55 lead.
Amores finished the match with 15 points and four rebounds while fellow rookie Delos
Santos stuffed the stat sheet with seven markers, nine boards, six assists, and three steals for the Stags (2-2)./PN
