MANILA – One person has reportedly died, while eight others sustained injuries due to typhoon Aghon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday.

NDRRMC’s situational report stated that the lone casualty so far is a 14-year-old female from Misamis Oriental. She died after Aghon’s strong winds toppled a tree.

The NDRRMC added that Aghon has affected a total of 36,143 people or 12,436 families in 268 barangays in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas and National Capital Region.

Of the total, 16,426 people or 4,076 families are staying in evacuation centers. The remaining 5,614 people or 1,245 families are staying with friends or relatives.

Typhoon Aghon is now moving away from Luzon but thunderstorms in parts of Metro Manila due to the southwesterly windflow are still expected, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Meanwhile, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and other government agencies to ensure the continued delivery of assistance and relief services to individuals affected by Typhoon Aghon.

“Tuluyan kong inatasan ang DSWD, ang DA (Department of Agriculture), DOH (Department of Health), para makapagbigay ng assistance sa lahat ng mga naging biktima ng Typhoon Aghon,” Marcos said in a speech prior to his departure to Brunei on Tuesday.

The Chief Executive stated that Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas were among the hardest-hit areas by the typhoon.

President Marcos added that three airports and 29 seaports were rendered non-operational as Aghon was crossing Luzon, while six cities and municipalities are experiencing power outages while 13 flooding incidents and three rain-induced landslides were also recorded, Marcos reported.

So far, the DSWD has provided P1.35 million worth of assistance while P607.9 million is on standby, according to the President./PN
