Nearly 95K quarantine violators in WV

ILOILO City – Close to 95,000 quarantine violators have been apprehended in Western Visayas since anti-coronavirus measures were imposed mid-March last year, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

PRO-6 data revealed a total of 94,973 alleged quarantine violators – 72,379 of whom were reprimanded, 22,251 penalized, and 343 arrested.

“Most of them violated protocols on wearing of facemasks and face shields and social distancing,” said Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson.

While not breaking down the arrests per provinces and cities, Malong said the facemask rule had the highest number of violators at 37,874, followed by physical distancing (26,276); barangay quarantine passes (2,346); mandatory isolation/quarantine (1,708); mass gatherings (797); disobedience to persons in authority (234); Republic Act 11332, or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act (173).

Western Visayas had been under varying levels of community quarantine since the pandemic started – enhanced community quarantine, general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ.

For the entire month of February, this city, Negros Occidental, Bacolod City, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, and Iloilo remains under MGCQ./PN
