WITH the needs of the City of Iloilo and the important priorities spelled out by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas immediately upon his election to office, we believe that all hands most be on deck to implement them.
But why do some of his people devote their time to pester and ease out some employees out of City Hall when there is so much work to do as envisioned by the mayor when he assumed office?
Our city mayor needs help to implement his program of government. Out of his five-point agenda, only the drainage has been started.
What about his hospital program for the poor? Does his heart not bleedfor those people at the Western Visayas Medical Center lining up and sleeping at the lobby waiting to be attended to by doctors? And when finally they have their turn and their ailments are diagnosed, their next problem is where to get the money to buy the medicines.
Iloilo City long needed a hospital of its own and we are glad that Mayor Treñas has placed it as No. 1 in his program. When is it going to start?
The public markets that we have in the city badly need upgrading, even if just the drainage problem alone is attended first. Our Iloilo City mayor was there one day to see a mezzanine built but being used for sleeping quarters and for something else, and he must be aware of our markets’ present condition. Our supermarket it is flooded and muddy even if it does not rain. Repairs of the flooring and the footways have been neglected.
Well, we are happy that the drainage problem of some streets is being attended to, as evidenced by work going on in some parts of the city.
When will the high-rise condominiums start to replace the squatter homes of the poor and the senior citizens and youth centers?
We do not mind if our city mayor appoints this “pestering guy” to head a committee to implement any of the programs not yet implemented so his talent in assigning regular office employees to the garbage dump could be put to good use.
We have nothing but best wishes and good will for Mayor Jerry P. Treñas in bringing Iloilo City to “level up”, as he puts it. We commend his new program of government which also include travel and tourism.
Iloilo City is now going places and we must congratulate him for the direction he is leading it to. We think that injecting politics in the job by some of his subalterns when election is long over will be a hindrance in accomplishing his goals for the city, and he should stop them.
