BACOLOD City—The provincial government of Negros Occidental has expressed strong support for the donation of the historic General Aniceto Lacson ancestral house in Talisay City to the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP).
The house will undergo restoration.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson affirmed his commitment to the project during the ceremonial signing of the deed of donation at Nature’s Village Resort on November 5. The event coincided with the province’’s celebration of the 126th Cinco de Noviembre, or Negros Day, a day commemorating the revolution against Spanish rule.
The agreement was signed between the heirs of General Lacson and the NMP, which has pledged an initial allocation of P20 million to commence the restoration work on the historic structure.
The renovation is expected to span two to three years, preserving the house as an ancestral museum and symbol of the province’s rich cultural heritage.
Constructed in 1880, the ancestral house was once the seat of the Cantonal Republic of Negros, established after the Spaniards surrendered to Negrense revolutionary leaders General Aniceto Lacson and General Juan Araneta.
“On behalf of the Provincial Government and the people of Negros Occidental, I extend our deepest gratitude to the heirs of General Aniceto Lacson for their donation. By entrusting this treasured ancestral home to the National Museum, you have taken a remarkable step to preserve our shared heritage,” Governor Lacson stated, emphasizing the house’s role in connecting future generations with Negrense history and values.
Governor Lacson also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of local historians, researchers, the City Government of Talisay, and community members in realizing the donation.
He expressed appreciation to the NMP for recognizing the Lacson ancestral house as part of the nation’s historical landmarks, ensuring the legacy of local heroes will be honored and remembered.
“Your commitment to honoring General Lacson’s legacy strengthens our pride and unity as Negrenses. Thank you for this lasting gift to our province and our nation,” he concluded./PN
