MANILA – Negrense welterweight boxer Reymond Yanong will aim for a second straight victory as he makes his ring return at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States (US) today.
The Escalante City, Negros Occidental-native will attempt to stretch his winning streak on US soil at the expense of American fighter Genaro Gamez.
Yanong – being trained and promoted by Ilonggo Aljoe Jaro – will come from a fresh split decision win against Gamez’s compatriot Clay Burns at the same venue on June 25.
Los Angeles-based orthodontist Ed Dela Vega, the one who made Yanong’s mouthguard for the fight versus Burns, said something is still lacking in the game of the Negrense.
“Burns was supposed to be a relatively easy fight for Yanong,” Dela Vega’s column posted on Philboxing.com wrote. “The fight with Burns showed some deficiencies in Yanong.”
“There is a need to work on his stamina to set himself up for 8 and 10 rounders that are on the horizon,” he added. “Jaro needs to train the kid harder and his nutrition should be above far.”
The 26-year-old Yanong will be entering the ring with an 11-5-1 win-loss-draw record (9 KOs), while the 24-year-old Gamez has a 9-1-0 card (6KOs).
