MANILA – Negrense Angel Canino will headline the star-studded Alas Pilipinas Women’s National Volleyball Team as they gear up for the first leg of the 5th Southeast Asia (SEA) V.League, set from August 1 to 3 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) formally announced the official 16-player lineup recently, calling it a “powerhouse” mix of veteran playmakers and dynamic young talent.

Canino, one of the most electrifying outside hitters in the collegiate and national scene today, will be joined by fellow outside hitters Eya Laure, Bella Belen, and Shaina Nitura. Opposite hitter Alyssa Solomon also boosts the team’s offensive firepower.

Providing stability in the middle are Leila Cruz, Cla Loresco, Dell Palomata, Maddie Madayag, Fifi Sharma, and Thea Gagate. The setting duties will be handled by seasoned playmakers Jia De Guzman and Mars Alba, while Justine Jazareno and Dawn Catindig will anchor the floor defense as liberos.

“Meet the powerhouse lineup of the #AlasPilipinas Women’s national team for the upcoming 5th SEA V.League! Let’s rally behind our national team as they bring pride to the country once again! Laban, Alas! Laban, Pilipinas!” the PNVF posted on social media.

Among those cut from the roster are Brooke Van Sickle, MJ Phillips, Tia Andaya, Ilongga Amie Provido, Guimarasnon Camilla Lamina, Julia Coronel, Jen Nieva, and Aleiah Malaluan

Alas Pilipinas aims to deliver strong performances against Southeast Asia’s best as they look to build on recent international success.

The team is scheduled to face host Thailand on August 1 at 6:00 p.m., followed by matches against Vietnam and Indonesia on August 2 and 3, respectively, both at 2:30 p.m./PN
