Manila – Determined to maintain its supremacy in the upcoming UAAP girls volleyball competition, the National University-Nazareth School Lady Bullpups have secured the commitment of Negrense hitter Myrtle Totica Escanlar.
The 5-foot-5 Escanlar, a standout from the Calvary Baptist Academy of Pontevedra, Inc., said she considers her transfer to the defending champions Lady Bullpups as a “major change in my life.”
“I am feeling a lot of emotions as I look forward to this,” Escanlar told Panay News. “I am excited, for this is a dream come true but a little bit apprehensive too. I just prayed and waited and things just turned out the way they are right now.”
“I am also bursting with gratitude and feeling humbled for this God-given opportunity. But I guess the strongest emotion I am feeling right now is confidence, because I prayed for this and doors were opened without me doing anything at all,” she added.
The Pontevedra-native hitter is a welcome addition to the squad of head coach Regine Diego due to her wealth of experience playing for Western Visayas team in Palarong Pambansa and with Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts in Rebisco National Finals.
“I know moving to NSNU is going to be hard and challenging. Training is going to be tough and balancing my studies and maintaining my grades is going be difficult too,” Escanlar said.
“Being away from home is going be hard since I have never been away from home and from my family for more than 2 weeks. But I have faith that the Lord will guide and protect me through all obstacles and hardships that I will be facing,” she added.
Escanlar, who was supported by ReadySetGO and Pontevedra Calvary Sports Ministry during her stint with Calvary, will join fellow Negrense in libero Shair Jardio at the Lady Bullpups camp.
“I look forward to being able to play alongside very skillful players and experience higher levels of competition,” she said “I want to be trained further and work hard to get better, both academically and in my sport.”
