PONTEVEDRA, Negros Occidental – Twelve-year-old football sensation Renzel Grace Gelsana Gella has added another milestone to her already glittering young career after emerging as a double champion in the recently concluded Borneo Cup in Malaysia.
Representing the Philippine contingent under Makati Football Club, Gella powered her squads to triumphs in both the U14 (Born 2011) and U12 (Born 2013) divisions, displaying not only skill but remarkable endurance by competing in back-to-back matches across two age groups.
Her performance in Malaysia further cemented her reputation as one of the country’s most promising football prospects. At such a young age, she has already amassed an impressive haul of medals and trophies abroad while proudly representing her hometown and the Philippines.
Gella first honed her football skills with the Pontevedra Football Club before being recruited by Makati FC, managed by veteran coaches Tomas Lozano and Selu Lozano.
Since then, her exposure to international tournaments has widened, with her journey taking her across Europe where she collected podium finishes: a silver in the Iber Cup in Portugal, a bronze in the Helsinki Cup in Finland, back-to-back championships in the Gothia Cup in Sweden, and another title in the Trophy Cup in London.
Now with two more titles from Malaysia under her belt, Gella continues to build a decorated résumé that few of her age from Negros Occidental – or the Philippines – can match.
With her talent, discipline, and faith, the young footballer is expected to play an even bigger role in future tournaments, bringing pride and honor to her province and country./PN
