MANILA – A 56-year-old Filipino-American limousine driver was a victim of random violence in Queens, New York.

Robert Martires died after being brutally attacked by a total stranger along Roosevelt Avenue near 69th Street in Woodside, just blocks away from his home.

According to the companion of Martirez when the incident took place, they just came from a late night meal at a corner cafe when the suspect walked up to them and punched the victim on the face.

Reports quoted witnesses as saying that the attacker first asked Martirez if he was Filipino before hitting him.

The victim was supposedly wearing a jersey with the face of boxing champion and Saranggani congressman Manny Pacquaio printed on it.

Martirez hit his head on the pavement when he fell and was rushed to Elmhurst General Hospital where he died.

The New York Police Department has launched a massive manhunt against the suspect who was described as a Hispanic male in his early to mid-20s, last seen wearing a white T-shirt, a pair of blue jeans and a dark baseball cap./PN
