BACOLOD City – The lifeless body of a male newborn was discovered beside a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) along the roadside of Purok Makiangayon, Barangay Punta Taytay, past 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22.

According to barangay kagawad Merilyn Malan, personnel from the garbage contractor IPM were about to dispose of a container at the barangay’s waste facility when they noticed something unusual. Upon opening the container, they found a cooking pot containing the infant’s body, a pillow, fresh blood, and an umbilical cord still attached.

The infant showed no signs of life. Barangay officials were immediately alerted, and a responding nurse confirmed the infant appeared to have been recently born.

Personnel from the Barangay Health Center have since launched efforts to verify the identities of all pregnant women in the area in an attempt to trace the child’s mother.

Officers of the Bacolod City Police Station 9, led by Police Captain Andy Ofalia, responded to the scene around 3 p.m. They were coordinating with local hospitals and barangay officials to identify the mother. However, initial inquiries have yielded no results, and no birth was recorded in the barangay on the day of the discovery.

As of this writing, the infant’s remains have been turned over to a local funeral home, while police continued their investigation to determine those responsible./PN
