ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a strict warning against regular voters attempting to cast their ballots during the early voting period today, declaring that the 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. timeslot is exclusively reserved for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women — with no exceptions allowed.

Iloilo City Election Officer Atty. Pinky Tentativa emphasized that even government employees, poll watchers, media personnel, and utility workers on duty are barred from availing of this special window.

The measure is part of Comelec’s policy to safeguard the voting rights and welfare of vulnerable individuals by avoiding long queues and congested polling areas.

“This is a targeted accommodation, not a privilege for all,” Tentativa said in a public advisory. “We’re appealing for full public cooperation to avoid unnecessary confusion or conflict at precincts.”

Anticipating possible violations, Comelec warned that challenges may arise if unaware or insistent voters demand early access.

Field officials and electoral boards have been directed to strictly enforce the rule and provide adequate assistance to qualified individuals through priority lanes and accessible voting spaces.

PWDs are advised to present their valid PWD ID cards for verification.

The early voting initiative underscores Comelec’s broader commitment to inclusivity and dignity in the electoral process. Tentativa urged all voters to respect the protocol, verify their voting schedule, and help ensure peaceful and orderly elections./PN
