ILOILO City – Eligible voters for the May 9, 2025 midterm elections must register before the impending deadline this September 30. The unregistered will not be allowed to vote.

Atty. Dennis Ausan, Director of the Commission on Elections Region 6.

This cut-off marks the end of the registration period, with no plans to extend it due to the subsequent commencement of the period for the filing of certificates of candidacy starting October 1, said Atty. Dennis Ausan, director of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Region 6.

As of September 17, Comelec-6 has received 197,163 applications for voter registration pertaining to various requests, including new registrations, transfer of residence, reactivation of deactivated entries, corrections of erroneous entries, and changes of status.

Here is the provincial breakdown of these applications:

* Aklan – 27,574

* Antique – 25,215

* Capiz – 31,488

* Guimaras – 6,773

* Iloilo – 106,113

Ausan excluded data from Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, as they are now part of the Negros Island Region (NIR).

He cited the robust turnout at city and municipal election offices, which he anticipates will increase as the final registration date nears.

To manage the expected surge, especially in densely populated areas like Iloilo City, voter registration drives are being conducted in malls to facilitate easier access for residents.

The requirements for registration are minimal, needing only a government-issued identification card and birth certification.

Application forms are available free of charge at Office of the Election Officers (OEOs) or can be downloaded and printed from the Comelec’s official website (www.comelec.gov.ph).

Initiated on February 12, 2024, the voter registration campaign is crucial for ensuring that citizens can participate in the May 9, 2025 national and local elections.

Additionally, Comelec has extended the deadline for online reactivation to September 25, to accommodate individuals who cannot visit registration centers in person. This extension is aimed particularly at those who have been deactivated but are unable to attend in person due to work or other commitments.

Those interested in online reactivation can contact their local OEO through email or scan the QR Code on Comelec’s Facebook page to obtain the necessary details for reactivation. However, personal reactivation will still be available until September 30 for those who can visit the OEOs.

Ausan urged all eligible individuals who wish to participate in the upcoming elections to complete their registration or reactivation processes before the deadlines./PN
