MANILA – Nxled Chameleons kept their perfect record intact in the PVL on Tour after sweeping Galeries Tower Highrisers, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23, on Tuesday night at the Playtime FilOil Arena in San Juan.
Jovelyn Fernandez starred with 14 points, built on 13 attacks and one service ace, earning Player of the Game honors for the Chameleons, who improved to a 3-0 record in Pool A.
“Our mindset is to always give our best performance each game,” said Fernandez. “I’m also grateful for the trust of the coaches, especially in me.”
Ennajie Laure-Cariño added 16 points, including 14 attacks, while Chiara Permentilla chipped in 13 markers in the victory for Nxled.
Trailing by as many as nine points in the opening set at 3-14, the Chameleons slowly clawed their way back behind Fernandez, Laure-Cariño, and Permentilla to snatch the set win.
Nxled sustained its momentum in the second and third sets to complete the straight-set triumph, made even sweeter by the presence of Kapamilya actor Donny Pangilinan at courtside.
Jewel Encarnacion led Galeries Tower with 15 points, while Jean Asis added 11, but the Highrisers remained winless in three outings with a 0-3 slate.
Meanwhile, Akari Power Chargers cruised to a hard-earned 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 straight-sets win over Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers.
Negrense Christine Joy Soyud, the league’s reigning Most Improved Player, led all scorers with 12 points, while Ezra Madrigal added 11 markers, built on eight attacks and three kill blocks, for the Power Chargers (2-3).
Grethcel Soltones chipped in nine points along with 15 excellent digs, Ivy Lacsina contributed eight points and 11 receptions, while playmaker Kamille Cal directed the offense with 22 excellent sets and added five points for Akari./PN
