ILOILO City – Obey the traffic rules or get citation tickets.
This was the warning of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of Iloilo City Police office (ICPO) to drivers of private vehicles violating traffic laws.
According to Police Lieutenant Marlon Valencia, TEU chief, many private vehicles were using roads – especially bike lanes – as parking areas.
“Our bike lanes sometimes have no space for bikers because these are occupied by private vehicles. We need the cooperation of drivers of private vehicles to lessen traffic congestion and it is better to see that our roads are clean,” Valencia said.
He added that his men were already deployed to the field to warn and reprimand drivers.
“We want to educate our drivers…kis-a gina-ignore nila ang law. So we are warning them, if they continue to ignore mapilitan kita nga dakpon sila kag hatagan citation ticket,” Valencia told Panay News.
In July this year, the ICPO launched the E-RECTA kay Tsip TEU program which aims to address or lessen traffic accidents.
Traffic-related incidents have always been a major concern, according to Police Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, city police director.
Vehicular accidents are one of the leading causes of physical injuries which sometimes result in deaths aside from damage to vehicles and properties.
The public may send reports, complaints and concerns that need immediate action of the TEU through hotlines numbers 338-3864, 09474398219 or 09454820901./PN
