ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Government, through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), aims to ensure cleanliness throughout the city during the celebration of this year’s Dinagyang Festival.

The CENRO has placed trash bins on designated roads to effectively manage waste during the festival. This is also expected to encourage responsible waste management among festival attendees and residents alike.

Engr. Niel Ravena, CENRO head, emphasized the significance of maintaining cleanliness in the city, especially during large events like Dinagyang.

He likewise underscored the importance of strict implementation of proper waste disposal regulations throughout the duration of the festival.

With this, the CENRO officer called for the public to be responsible while attending the festivities, such as by throwing their trash in designated places and avoiding urinating in public places.

To note, CENRO has also set up 85 portable toilets all over the City Proper district.

Earlier, Ravena said more than 500 personnel are deployed to ensure the cleanliness of the old business district while over 200 sweet sweepers are dispersed around the city roads.

The CENRO chief noted that they expect to collect about 50 to 60 tons of Dinagyang trash.

In the aftermath of last year’s Dinagyang Festival, over 80 tons of assorted garbage were collected by the city street sweepers.

This volume of waste was collected in the City Proper area only where the highlights of the festival were held./PN
