
ANTIQUE – A tragic head-on collision between a tourist transport van and a Ceres bus in Barangay Fragante, Pandan town here claimed the life of the van driver and left 10 others injured, at around 6:48 a.m. yesterday.
The 64-year-old Dioleto Nagor, a resident of Barangay Jumarap, Banga, Aklan, was declared dead on the spot. Authorities said his intestines were exposed due to the severe impact of the injuries he sustained.
Meanwhile, the bus driver, alias “Ron”, 48, of Barangay San Francisco, Tibiao town, sustained injuries along with nine passengers who suffered minor wounds. They were immediately brought to the nearest hospital for medical attention. All have since been discharged.
According to Police Lieutenant Allan Otis, deputy chief of the Pandan Municipal Police Station (MPS), closed-circuit television camera footage showed that the van overshot its lane, veering into the path of the oncoming bus. The impact caused the van to be completely wrecked.
Fortunately, the van was not carrying any passengers at the time of the accident.
Following the collision, the bus crashed into a residential electric post as the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the force of the impact. No injuries were reported among residents in the nearby house.
The van was reportedly traveling from Nabas, Aklan to Pandan, Antique while the bus was headed in the opposite direction.
Otis noted that the crash occurred along a blind curve, and the road was slippery due to rain which may have contributed to the accident.
The bus driver is currently under the custody of the Pandan MPS pending the decision of the victim’s family on whether to pursue charges./PN
