CAPIZ – At least 107 households in Barangay Dinginan, Roxas City will be relocated to make way for the construction of a new slaughterhouse, according to the City Engineering Office.

In a radio interview, Engr. Juvy A. Tabaranza, Assistant Department Head I of the city government, said the relocation was initially communicated to the affected residents as early as 2020.

Tabaranza confirmed that the city government will provide P10,000 in financial assistance and food packs to each affected household. The relocation site remains within Barangay Dinginan, and the government will also supply basic utilities, including water and electricity, to the new settlement area.

In addition, the affected families will receive a deed of donation for a 54-square meter plot of land where they will resettle.

The relocation is being carried out through the joint efforts of several government offices and agencies, including the City Engineering Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Local Housing Unit, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Capiz Electric Cooperative, Roxas City Communications Group, and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

As early as 2021, the city government had conducted dialogues with the residents to inform them of the proposed project and gather their sentiments. Tabaranza emphasized that the decision to proceed with relocation considered the welfare of the families and the city’s plans to modernize its public infrastructure.
