Over P180K worth of property lost to Pontevedra fire

CAPIZ – A fire that broke out at around 8:30 p.m. on June 3 in Barangay Ilawod, Pontevedra town caused over P180,000 in property damage, authorities reported.

The affected establishment, located within the Pontevedra Public Market area, is owned by the 29-year-old Michael John Alianza, a resident of the town.

In an interview, Fire Officer 1 Jojie Distor of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Pontevedra said the blaze originated inside a building that housed two billiard tables. He added that a firewall separating the establishment from adjacent structures prevented the flames from spreading.

Firefighters responded promptly and were able to contain the fire by 9:05 p.m., averting what could have been a larger disaster.

While the cause of the fire remained under investigation as of this writing, Distor urged residents to stay vigilant about fire safety.

He advised the public to regularly inspect potential fire hazards in their own homes or business establishments such as chimneys, electrical wiring, and appliances in homes and businesses to prevent similar incidents./PN
