BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s bid to become a convention hub gets a boost with the groundbreaking for the P1.03-billion convention center in Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), construction will begin next month following the release of the P400-million initial budget.
Cong. Francisco Benitez of the province’s 3rd District, who was present during the groundbreaking on July 11, said the Negros Occidental Convention Center is poised to become a vital hub, adding that it is strategically located near the Bacolod-Silay Airport and Bacolod North Road.
“This certified green building will prioritize eco-friendly practices. It will be a two-storey building with a floor area of 8,640 square meters within the three-hectare lot area. It will feature a multipurpose facility that can accommodate up to 6,200 visitors and staff,” he added.
Also present during the ceremony were DPWH Undersecretary for Regional Operations Roberto Bernardo, DPWH Region 6 director Engr. Sanny Boy Oropel, Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, and Bacolod City’s Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez./PN
