P15-M PCG radar station breaks ground

BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) broke ground for the new P15 million multi-purpose building and radar station in the city’s BREDCO port.

The ground breaking on Thursday, March 14, was graced by Bacolod City Lone District Cong. Greg Gasataya and Uswag Ilonggo Party-list Cong. James Ang Jr.

Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) commander, CG Captain Weniel Azcuna, expressed his sincere gratitude for bringing the project into reality.

Azcuna said the concept of the station was born way back in 2017.

The CGDWV head said the new radar station is not only a physical structure but will also become a symbol of safety and security for Negros Occidental’s maritime community.

Azcuna added that the facility is expected to enhance the PCG’s ability to monitor and respond to maritime threats, ensuring a safer environment for all.

Azcuna assured that the PCG is fully committed to serving and protecting the residents of the city and the province.

The new PCG building and radar station will be constructed on a 500-square-meter lot donated by the BREDCO management.

During the ground breaking activity, BREDCO president John Alonte and Coast Guard Station Northern Negros Occidental chief CG Commander Joe Luviz Mercurio signed the deed of donation for the lot.(Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
