MANILA – Rain or Shine Elasto Painters handed Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots their first loss in the PBA Philippine Cup with a 119-105 victory on Sunday night at the Ynares Center II in Montalban, Rizal.
Leonard Santillan posted a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds to go with three blocks and an assist to be named Player of the Game as the Painters notched their fourth win in six outings.
“Actually, before our practice talaga, nage-extra (workout) ako, and sa practice naman, nandun palagi ‘yung intensity namin para maging ready kami sa laro,” Santillan said after the win.
Adrian Nocum led the Painters with 20 points, seven assists, and two rebounds, Jhonard Clarito added 14 markers, while Felix Pangilinan-Lemetti and Keith Datu had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
“Challenge talaga makaharap ang Magnolia,” Painters head coach Joseller “Yeng” Guiao said. “Alam naman namin na wala pa silang talo, so we are just hoping na, sa sobrang ganda ng nilalaro nila, isang araw mamalasin sila and sana matapat sa amin.”
“Mabuti na lang ganun nga, medyo minalas sila, tapos maganda ‘yung shooting namin, we were making our three-point shots and we were able to play at our own pace, we were able to control the transition game,” he added.
Zavier Lucero led the Hotshots with 17 points, Andy Mark Barroca and Ian Sangalang added 15 markers apiece, and Jed Mendoza contributed 11 points as they dropped to a 6-1 win-loss card.
Meanwhile, San Miguel Beermen leaned on a huge double-double game by Rodney Brondial to score a 128-99 rout over the Terrafirma Dyip.
The former Adamson University Falcons big man finished with 16 points to go with a career-high of 22 rebounds as the Beermen surged to solo third place with a 5-2 win-loss slate.
