MANILA – Government workers in the Executive Branch will clock out at 1 p.m. today as Malacañang ordered a half-day schedule to give families more time together in observance of the 33rd National Family Week and “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga” Day.
The directive, issued under Memorandum Circular No. 96 by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on orders of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., underscores the administration’s push to put family solidarity at the center of national observance.
“This Office also encourages all government workers in the Executive branch to fully support the programs and activities relative to the observance of Family Week, as organized by the National Committee on the Filipino Family,” the memorandum stated.
The circular is anchored on Proclamation No. 60 (1992), which declared the last week of September as Family Week, and Proclamation No. 326 (2012), which designated every fourth Monday of September as “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga” Day.
Agencies providing frontline, health, disaster-response, and other critical services are excluded from the work suspension and must continue operations.
Malacañang also urged other branches of government, independent commissions, and the private sector to mirror the initiative “so as to afford all Filipino families the full opportunity to celebrate the 33rd National Family Week.”
