MANILA – The government will double their efforts to open more employment opportunities for Filipinos, Presidential Communications Office’s Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Tuesday.
In a media briefing at Malacañang Palace, Castro said the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) latest report about the employment rate in the country in February 2025 is “good news”.
“Kung tumaas po ang employment rate, ang ibig sabihin ay maganda po ang nagiging pamamalakad ng gobyerno para po maibsan ang kahirapan ng ilan po sa atin,” Castro said.
She added: “Kapag po talagang mahihirapang kumuha ng trabaho, mahihirapan din po silang kumuha ng income. So meron din po tayong programa para sa mga hiring na mga employees.”
Castro announced that the government will persist in conducting job fairs across the country to assist unemployed Filipinos, particularly those graduating from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
She noted that graduating members of the 4Ps may have the opportunity to be employed immediately at the job fairs organized by the Department of Labor and Employment.
The unemployment rate fell to 3.8 percent in February 2025, down from 4.3 percent in January 2025, marking the lowest level since the 3.1 percent recorded in December 2024, according to the latest Labor Force Survey by the PSA.
The total number of unemployed individuals in the Philippines decreased to 1.94 million, a reduction from 2.16 million in January of this year, as reported by the PSA.
Conversely, the employment rate increased to 96.2 percent in February 2025, up from 95.7 percent in January 2025.
Additionally, the number of employed Filipinos rose to 49.15 million, surpassing the figures of 48.49 million in January 2025 and 48.95 million in February 2024./PN
