MANILA – Veteran cagers Yousef Taha and Nelbert Omolon have both decided to end their respective basketball careers at young ages as they embark on their new life outside the PBA.
In a lengthy post on his social media account, the 6-foot-7 Filipino-Palestinian Taha announced his retirement as he returns to his home-country to deal with personal matters and be with his family.
“It hurts me to say (that) I feel it is best for me not to continue my PBA career,” the 28-year-old Taha said. “There are moments in life where things just don’t make sense, but in the future they will.”
“I’ll miss everyone and everything here for sure but we never know what the future holds. I will without a doubt keep it all in my heart. Nothing but peace and love. God bless,” he added.
Taha started his PBA career in 2011 when he was drafted by the Air 21 Express. He then went on to play for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, the San Miguel Beermen, Star Hotshots, and GlobalPort Batang Pier.
Meanwhile, former Beermen forward Nelbert Omolon has also decided to end his basketball career at the age of 36 to focus on his family’s agribusiness in Bukidnon.
Beermen team manager Gelacio Abanilla confirmed that Omolon decided not to compete for a spot in the team’s 15-man roster after his contract expired at the end of the Governors Cup.
Omolon, a four-time PBA champion, started his PBA career with the Sta. Lucia Realtors in 2004 before suiting up for the Meralco Bolts, Express and the Beermen./PN
