MANILA – Negros Kingsmen and Iloilo Kisela Knights continued their winning ways in the 2022 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Third Conference over the weekend.

The Kingsmen had another perfect evening. They scored a 16-5 domination over Tacloban before following it up with a 18-3 annihilation of Palawan for a 6-2 win-loss record.

Against Tacloban, Negros swept the blitz event behind full points each by David Elorta (Board 1), Mari Turqueza (Board 2), Bernadette Galas (Board 3), Edmundo Gatus (Board 4), Edsel Montoya (Board 5), Ted Montoyo (Board 6), and Rolzon Roullo (Board 7).

Tacloban, however, managed to earn points in the rapid event with only Elorta, Turqueza, Galas and Montoya garnering the full two points and Montoyo settled for a split for the Kingsmen.

Facing the Palawan, the Kingsmen lineup of Elorta, Turquez, Galas, Gatus, Ellan Asuela (Board 5), Montoyo, and Roullo dominated their oppositions in the blitz (7-0) and rapid (11-3) events.

Prior to the double-header, the Kingsmen also got a favorable ruling from the PCAP for their match against the Kisela Knights, which was held last month at Estancia Mall in Pasig City.

The Kisela Knights, for its part, also snared two lopsided victories against Palawan, 15-6, and Cagayan de Oro, 14-7. The Ilonggos are now on top of the Southern Division standings with a 7-1 slate.

The Kisela Knights edged Palawan in blitz event, 6-1, behind full points each by Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 1), Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 4), Rolly Parondo Jr. (Board 5), Fritz Bryan Porras (Board 6), and Cesar Mariano (Board 7).

The Ilonggo woodpushers struggled a bit in the rapid game against Palawan, 9-5, with two pointers each by Ochoa, Antonio, Porras and Mariano and a split point courtesy of Parondo.

Against Cagayan de Oro, the Kisela Knights scored a 5-2 victory in the blitz game behind full points by Ochoa, Mejia (Board 3), Antonio, Parondo and Mariano. The five also made their presence felt in Iloilo’s 9-5 win over Cagayan in the rapid game./PN
