ILOILO City – The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Iloilo secured a historic back-to-back victory, clinching the prestigious title of Most Outstanding Chamber at both the Visayas and national levels in the province category during the 50th Philippine Business Conference (PBC). The awards were presented at the Marriott Grand Ballroom on October 23, marking PCCI Iloilo’s second consecutive year receiving this distinction, having first won in 2023.
The two-day conference, held from October 22 to 23, 2024, saw PCCI Iloilo earned multiple accolades. On October 22, it received the Best Tourism Advocacy Award, recognizing its efforts in promoting tourism in the region. Additionally, the Provincial Government of Iloilo earned a special citation for second place in the Most Business-Friendly LGU (Province Level) category.
On October 23, PCCI Iloilo was again in the spotlight with its Most Outstanding Chamber win. Moreover, West Visayas State University was named the champion of the Best Business Idea Development Award (BIDA), showcasing innovative contributions to the business landscape.
In an interview, PCCI Iloilo president, Engr. Fulbert C. Woo, credited the chamber’s success to its collaborative efforts with both private and government sectors.
“The secret to our achievements lies in our partnerships with the Province of Iloilo, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., Mayor Jerry Treñas, and national agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Our programs align well with the needs of local businesses,” he shared.
Woo emphasized the chamber’s remarkable growth in membership, which has now reached 300 members: “The increase in our membership played a significant role in this recognition. From humble beginnings, we’ve grown, and the Ilonggos now feel the presence and impact of PCCI in Iloilo.”
Looking ahead, Woo stressed the importance of sustainability and inclusivity.
“We aim to maintain our programs and continue serving the needs of our 17 business sectors, including agriculture and construction, to ensure that all voices are heard,” he said.
He also highlighted the chamber’s focus on innovation and inspiration: “Last year, our goal was to innovate and be inclusive. This year, we added inspiration, drawing from the many success stories we’ve seen.”
The plaques were presented by PCCI leaders, including President Consul Enunina V. Mangio, Chairman George Barcelon, and 50th PBC chair Jude Aguilar. Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick D. Go was also in attendance, alongside PCCI Iloilo President Woo and AVP Melanie Ng, who proudly accepted the awards.
As PCCI Iloilo sets its sights on achieving Hall of Fame status, Woo remains focused on the chamber’s mission.
“It’s not about the awards. Our goal is for Ilonggos to truly feel the voice of business through PCCI Iloilo,” he said./PN
