BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod here passed a resolution last week appealing to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to accommodate requests of medical assistance from indigent patients of this city.
Councilor Simplicia Distrito, author of the resolution, said patients relying on PCSO’s medical aid sought their help.
“Our indigent constituents aired their sentiments about this issue saying that PCSO made no action or refused to cater their requests, thus, they asked for action from members of this Sanggunian,” Distrito said.
Distrito added the suspension of some of the agency’s gaming outlets affected the requests for medical assistance of indigents in the city.
“In fact, a lot of them are already complaining considering that they greatly depend on the aid,” the lady councilor said.
Cited in the resolution, the SP’s august body appealed to the PCSO through President Rodrigo Duterte to accommodate the numerous requests of indigent constituents affected by the sudden suspension of PCSO-franchised gaming outlets.
“To our President, who has a kind heart for those who are in need, we also appeal to consider the plea of our indigent constituents that is for PCSO to accommodate their requests since most of them gravely needed the assistance,” added on the resolution.
Earlier, Malacañang gave assurance that the government would continue to help patients in need of medical assistance even after the President closed Small Town Lottery, Peryahan ng Bayan and Keno games through which the PCSO raised money for charity.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the President had discretionary funds that may be used to provide aid to patients reliant on PCSO programs./PN

A lot of people are relying on the charity.
I’ve seen a lot of people (mostly cancer victims) lining up for that.
It’s not the best organization but they help alot.
My first thought was for the people who worked in these businesses.
They just lost their jobs, and they WERE working legally.
