ROXAS City – A police checkpoint in Barangay Tabuc, Pontevedra, Capiz caught a man with a gun and grenade.

Jay Benitez, 24, was a resident of Barangay Rizal, Pontevedra.

Driving a black Yamaha motorcycle, he was made to stop at the checkpoint for inspection around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 15.

No less than Pontevedra police chief Police Major Cristopher Candelario spotted in plain view a handle of a .45 pistol protruding from Benitez’s waist.

Benitez was asked to show pertaining documents for the gun – a Colt .45 with defaced serial number – but he failed. He was immediately arrested and the gun (inserted with a magazine containing seven live ammunition) seized.

Benitez’s backpack was inspected. Policemen discovered a hand grenade.

The suspect was taken to the Pontevedra police station.

The Pontevedra police would charge him with violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
