ILOILO City – With the onset of the “ber months” and the surge of shopping and economic activity leading up to Christmas, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has tightened security measures across Western Visayas to curb robbery, theft, and other crimes.
PRO-6 director Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan stressed that the regional police force is dispelling fears of rising economic crimes during the season by heightening visibility in malls, markets, and other business centers.
“This is what I am always telling our police personnel. We have to dispel that myth that when the ‘ber’ months come, tataas din ‘yung mga economic crimes. Ano ‘yung mga economic crimes? Like robbery and theft. We have to dispel that,” Ligan said.
To achieve this, PRO-6 is deploying more personnel to high-traffic areas and coordinating closely with private security teams.
“Ibubuhos natin ‘yung tao natin sa possible places na dadami ‘yung tao, especially doon sa mga business establishments, in coordination with their security management,” Ligan explained.
Aside from intensified patrols, the regional police are sustaining anti-criminality campaigns such as anti-drug operations and checkpoints. Simulation exercises and drills also continue to ensure quick response in emergencies.
Ligan also urged the public to do their part by reporting suspicious activities.
“Christmas is a time for celebration and family. Our goal is to make sure that every community in Western Visayas can welcome the season without fear,” he said./PN
