ILOILO City – Reports have surfaced about alleged maneuverings to oust Brigadier General Jack Wanky as director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

Rumors have been spreading since last week, suggesting that a group is orchestrating a campaign to have Wanky relieved from his post and replaced by another officer.

However, Wanky remains unfazed by these reports.

“I never heard of reports that my position is being threatened. Alam n’yo, sa position na ganito marami ang gusto or nag-a-aspire. Wala namang problema, hindi naman tayo tumatagal sa isang position,” Wanky said.

When questioned about who might be behind this alleged maneuvering, Wanky said he was unsure but suspected it might be individuals affected by the campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling.

“Effective kasi tayo sa campaign against illegal drugs and gambling, so baka may nasagasaan tayo, that’s why they want na mapaalis ako dito,” said Wanky.

He added: “Basta ako, I’m confident with what I’m doing though anytime I (may) be relieved.”

Wanky was installed as Western Visayas police director just this February. He previously served as Acting Director of the Philippine National Police’s Aviation Security Group.

During his installation, Wanky said the support and cooperation of everyone was vital in the campaign against criminality.

A native of Benguet, Wanky was a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy “Tagapagpatupad” Class of 1992.

“I want the PRO-6 to become a model police office nationwide,” Wanky said.

Wanky, whose wife is from Negros Occidental, is not new to Western Visayas. He was previously assigned in Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan and had served as director of the Bacolod City Police Office./PN
