PRO-6 intensifies monitoring vs rogue cops

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is intensifying its monitoring of – and operations against – rogue cops across Western Visayas.

Newly installed chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr., ordered operations against rogue cops “at the lower level”.

Acorda said there are just a few rogue cops, citing his experience as a counterintelligence agent.

“Kung sino po ‘yung mga nasa listahan at ayaw magbagong-buhay ay talagang ooperate-an na natin,” Acorda said.

He added, “That is what I’m urging. Noong mineet natin ‘yung regional directors, ‘yan ang hiniling ko sa kanila — that the command responsibility, sa bawat paglilinis sa bawat level, is dapat masusunod.”

For his part, Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, PRO-6 director, said prior to Acorda’s order, they were already conducting counterintelligence monitoring of police officers reportedly involved in illegal activities, especially illegal drugs.

“Kung ano man ang order ng ating bagong PNP chief, we have to follow para sa ikabubuti ng organisasyon,” Francisco said.

The PRO-6 director earlier said more than 10 police officers in the region were under monitoring and investigation for alleged connection to drug personalities.

“Sa nasabi ko na noon na may natanggap tayo na information through our hotline numbers na there are police personnel na may association sa certain drug pushers at engaged rin sa ibang illegal activities. So lahat na ito ay nangangailangan ng masusing investigation and verification,” Francisco added./PN
