ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has expressed support for newly appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Major General Nicolas Torre III who has deep roots in Iloilo Province.
Torre, who hails from a family originating in Tigbauan and Dumangas towns, is set to succeed General Rommel Francisco Marbil, whose retirement takes effect on June 7 following a three-month extension granted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. after the 2025 national and local elections.
PRO-6 regional director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said the region is fully behind Torre’s leadership, citing not only his professional qualifications but also their longstanding camaraderie and shared experiences in Mindanao.
“I fully support General Torre not only as our chief but also as a friend and my direct underclass. We served together in Mindanao — he’s a good officer and an Ilonggo. (But) (r)egardless of who is appointed, we must give our full support,” Wanky said.
Torre, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Tagapagpatupad Class of 1993, grew up in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, where his family relocated due to his father’s assignment as a member of the now-defunct Philippine Constabulary.
His father was a native of Tigbauan while his mother, a public school teacher, was from Dumangas and belonged to the Deloso clan.
Torre’s appointment has been met with optimism within PRO-6, which sees his Ilonggo lineage as a source of pride and inspiration for the region’s law enforcers./PN
