ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) recorded no violations across Western Visayas during the two-day liquor ban implemented in connection with the May 12 national and local elections.
In compliance with Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 11057, a liquor ban was enforced from May 11 to 12 to help ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process. During this period, the sale, purchase, service, and consumption of alcoholic beverages were strictly prohibited nationwide.
Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, PRO-6 spokesperson, praised the cooperation of the public and the effectiveness of proactive police operations in the region.
“The zero-violation report reflects not only the commitment of our police force to maintain order but also the public’s understanding and support for election-related policies,” he said.
The aforementioned Comelec resolution stated that violators of the liquor ban may face penalties, including fines and imprisonment, as provided under the Omnibus Election Code.
While liquor ban violations have been common in previous election cycles, PRO-6’s report signals a notable shift in public adherence to election-related laws in the region. The absence of any arrests or citations is being seen as a positive indicator of heightened civic responsibility.
Solis also lauded the various local government units and business owners for their cooperation and called on them to maintain the same level of support in future electoral exercises.
“Our collective efforts ensured that the elections proceeded in a peaceful and orderly manner. We hope to sustain this level of cooperation in the years to come,” he said./PN
