BACOLOD City – A program seeking to end violence against children was launched in the city.
The End Violence Against Children through Child-Friendly Accountability program was spearheaded by the Community’s Hope and Initiative for Lasting Development, Inc. (CHILD, Inc.) and the Child Fund.
The program was launched on Aug. 22 at the Sugarland Hotel following its first leg in Iloilo City in March.
The program, which advocates child protection, was supported by the local government of Bacolod City, the Philippine National Police, the Department of Education, the Department of Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The activity aims to make the public accountable in protecting children, said CHILD, Inc. federation manager Fe Segismar.
“I hope to strengthen partnership with all the stakeholders to make the community violence-free,” Segismar added.
The Council for the Welfare of Children with United Nations Children Emergency Fund survey showed that domestic physical abuse is very common in the Philippines.
“That is why the advocacy must start at home. Some perpetrators may be the child’s relatives, parents or siblings,” said Segismar./PN
