SAN JOSE, Antique – The Association of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Bugasong, Antique received P918,320 from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The amount will be used for the enhancement of their canteen and catering service project, which was put up in 2011 with a P200,000 capital.
This is part of the Labor department’s Integrated Livelihood Program, which gives financial support to livelihood projects for the poor and marginalized.
“The support given to us goes beyond financial provision. It has encouraged us to build sustainable projects,” said Milagros Villeta, the PWD association president.
DOLE Region 6 director Johnson Canete handed over the check to Villeta at the Bugasong Municipal Gym on July 19 as part of the 39th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.
“If we give PWDs the opportunity to earn more, they will not be dependent on others and have an income of their own,” Canete said.
Provincial Director Lorraine Villegas, Public Employment Service Officer regional president Rani Rodriguez and local officials were also present at the turnover. (PIA/PN)
