THE story of former President Manuel L. Quezon will also be told in Hawaii, as the Jerrold Tarog-helmed “Quezon” was announced as an entry to the 45th Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF).

TBA Studios announced its upcoming international debut in a press statement, saying the Jericho Rosales-led film is part of the Spotlight on the Philippines category.

According to the film production company, the category is defined as a special program that honors “Filipino American History Month and celebrates the depth and diversity of Filipino storytelling across the diaspora.”

“Quezon” producer and TBA Studios’ chief Daphne Chiu said she is excited to share the film with global audiences.

“We are thrilled to share ‘Quezon’ with audiences in Hawai’i and beyond at HIFF,” she said. “We’re thankful to HIFF for its warm Aloha to our film and hope audiences will be as excited to see it abroad as they have been in the Philippines.”

The film will be screened at 2:30 p.m. on October 26 at the Consolidated Kahala Theater and at 6 p.m. on October 28 at the Consolidated Kapolei Theater.

Other Filipino films that will be screened at the HIFF are the Eraserheads’ docu-film “Combo on the Run,” Lav Diaz’s “Magellan,” and Baby Ruth Villarama’s “Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea.”

“Quezon” — which stars Rosales, Karylle, Romnick Sarmenta, Mon Confiado, Benjamin Alves, and Iain Glen — is the third film of the production studios’ Bayaniverse trilogy. It tells the story of Quezon (Rosales) facing off against former president Emilio Aguinaldo in the 1935 presidential elections.

The film will premiere in Philippine theaters on October 15.

TBA Studios also announced that “Quezon” will have a theatrical release in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. (Hannah Mallorca © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
