BACOLOD City – Investigators believe that suspects tried to rape the 14-year-old lass who was found dead in a sugarcane field in Hacienda San Jose, Barangay Mabini, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
The victim was a Grade 9 student and resident of the village. She had four stab wounds on the body.
Cadiz city police station chief, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mansueto, said they have invited a person of interest for questioning. He was described as an admirer of the girl.
Mansueto noted the facemask recovered in the crime scene was similar to the one worn by the person they summoned.
It was also learned that the man was seen on his motorcycle following the victim prior to the incident and was also spotted later coming out of the sugarcane field.
According to police investigators, the victim left her mother’s house around 10 a.m. on Aug. 1 to go to his father in Purok Balod – also in the village.
She was believed to have been dragged into the sugarcane field, police said. Mansueto said they are still waiting for witnesses to surface./PN
