BACOLOD City – The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) will hold an “aftercare” phase after the 65 reformists finished the 8-week Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program of the city.

The reformists were part of the 105 drug surrenderers who underwent the program based on the recommendation of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council Committee on Rehabilitation.

They were among the 3,911 drug surrenderers of the Oplan Tokhang campaign.

Social welfare officer Sally Abelarde said the aftercare phase will include providing reformists with livelihood.

It is more on continuing updates on education and development on soft skill to enhance their lives and guiding them to be a “person of substance,” Abelardo added.

“We are now conducting an assessment. And based on the result, most of them wanted to undergo training on  welding,” she disclosed.

Due to the rampant problem on drug abuse, Mayor Evelio Leonardia directed DSSD to come up with a program to help Bacolodnons who are into drugs, said Abelarde.

A follow-up monitoring and validation, including on-the-spot drug tests, are still being conducted by the city to the reformists.

Leonardia said he has instructed Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of the Bacolod City Police Office, to “make the anti-drug campaign our top priority.”/PN
