NEGROS Occidental – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the road slope protection works along the portion of Bacolod South Road (BSR) in Cauayan town here.
Engr. Sanny Boy Oropel, DPWH Region 6 director, said they constructed slope protection walls with line canal and stairs measuring 460 meters and 331.5 meters, and installed a 105.3-square meter active wire mesh system with type 4 permanent ground anchor erosion control mat along the BSR segment in the town’s Barangay Linaon.
“The structure now mitigates the threat of possible soil erosion and rockfall, maintaining a safe and clear pathway for motorists plying the Kabankalan-Hinobaan section of the main road,” said Oropel.
Farming and fishing communities in Barangay Linaon are grateful for the project as they no longer experience delays in the delivery of produce due to frequent road closures along the landslide-prone section.
Besides facilitating safer and unhampered travel, the DPWH said the road slope protection project also shields existing roads and nearby properties against damage caused by cascading debris.
The P96.5-million project was implemented by DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office./PN
