ILOILO City – A rookie police officer and a civilian friend were arrested in Barangay Lawaan, Roxas City for alleged illegal discharge of firearm.
Police Officer 1 Archie Ian Garcia, 25, was assigned at the Capiz Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Operations Task Group. He and 31-year-old friend Leonel Magdag, both residents of Roxas City, were detained at the city’s police station on Jan. 18.
Around 10 p.m., drunken Garcia and Magdag fired the cop’s service firearm – a .45 pistol – three times, according to Superintendent Luther Lugo, Roxas City police chief.
Disturbed neighbors Elizar Albarece, 37, and Pio Distajo, 52, alerted the Roxas City police station.
When the responding cops arrived, Garcia was still holding the .45 pistol, said Lugo.
Cops recovered two empty shells of a .45 pistol and an empty shell of a .9mm pistol.
Lugo said this was not the first time Garcia figured in indiscriminate firing of a gun.
He also said Garcia had a pending administrative case in the Police Regional Office 6.
Capiz police director Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion ordered Lugo to file criminal and administrative charges against the policeman./PN
